I don’t like something, then I do — and a lot.
This instance of that trend in my life involves a very long time span.
(Though that time span would have certainly been shorter if I’d seen this video 15 years ago.)
When MTV’s AMP was being shown, I was about 13 years old, and constantly aware of that TV station, looking for any interesting music. I’d watch late on Fridays and Saturdays and often saw a long series of videos of entirely electronic music. It was repulsive to me. I felt almost sickened by it.
But I also remembered it.
Enough that I searched for “MTV Techno” on Youtube just now, wondering what that show would look like to me now.
Fortunately some beautiful soul recorded it on a VHS tape in 1997, digitized it, and made it publicly available.
In amazement, I saw this show again, as a person with completely different needs. Because now, this show is the opposite of what it was. It was a strange, inhuman place, now it’s a haven.
