I just was watching an interview of Jean-Luc Godard by Dick Cavett. He said something I wanted to remember. And I haven’t posted enough here, I apologize. But I’ve been a bit discouraged knowing that AI bots are constantly hoovering all writing on the internet. Anyway –
Here is the great quote: “Very often people think of themselves as artists and they try very hard not to be linked with money, to be separated, to be independent from money…I don’t think so, art is not independent from economy, but in reverse, economy is not independent from art…”
All my life in American education all you hear is art has no power making money. Poetry has no power making money. Music has no power making money. Everyone must study finance, or at least engineering. We must defund “humanities” at the profit of “STEM.”
The beginnings of the result of that thought are visible in the swift rise of fascism and its inherent violent racism and hatred of the poor and vulnerable.
